Zero in on Data Sufficiency

Statement (1)
Absolute values cannot be negative. If -x equals an absolute value, -x cannot be negative, so x cannot be positive. Since x ≠ 0, x must be negative.
This statement is sufficient.
The correct answer is A or D.
Statement (2)
Simplifying this expression gives us x = + 4 or - 4.
Therefore, x can be positive or negative and statement 2 alone isn’t sufficient.
The correct choice is A.
